Temporary Visas

“I was lucky to have come during a time when visas were not as expensive and weren’t very hard to get, unlike now my niece has been denied her visa many times, it’s hard.” said “Rivera” who came in 1991 at 22. To apply to get a visa a person must apply within their own country of origin and wait to go through a long process. In some cases when a person has come to America and would like to apply for a visa they must go back to their country of origin to apply. Currently for someone to get a visa they must have their papers in order, must show they have the funds to come to America, a place to stay and can prove that their stay is limited, that is if they are applying for a temporary visa. A visa that allows a person to enter the United States temporarily, can be given for business, pleasure, tourism, school, work and medical treatment each of these options allow a person to enter the U.S with the expectation that they will return to their country at the end of their stay. If a person is able to prove and provide the correct documentation and
reasons for coming to the U.S. then they are granted their visa ("Visitor visas -,"). Temporary visas mean that the must pay a non- refundable $160 fee. Some immigrants that have come to America illegally had applied for a visa but had been denied many times. These immigrants saw that instead of spending a lot of their hard earned money on a lost cause they decided to spend their money to come to the U.S illegally. Immigrants in the 19th century did not have to pay to live within the U.S legally they just had to go through a medical and legal inspection before being granted their stay, unless they were detained or denied. Now immigrants must show they will be able to finance their stay while in America or that someone else will be able to finance their stay, unlike immigrants in the19th century who could borrow a few dollars from a person to show they were financially stable (Welcome to immigration, 2012).

Permanent Resident, Visa
One can apply for a fiance or one can apply for a family member to recieve a permanent residency.
One of the ways to obtain a permanent visa is for a family member who is a legal citizen to sponsor the immigrant who is looking to live and work within America legally. The sponsor must show that they are financially able to provide, support and take legal responsibility for the family member that they are wishing to bring to the U.S. The sponsor must fill out the required paper work, provide the correct documents as well as pay a fee ranging from $420 to $230 depending on the visa that applies to their case. Another way to obtain a permanent residency card is if your fiancé or spouse applies to bring a person over. If a person is wishing to bring their spouse to America they must file their petitions within thecountry where the marriage took place (Visitors visas-). If a person is wishing to bring their fiancé, then they would have to file for a visa that would allow them to get married. Though they only have 6 months to get married or else the person will have to leave the country. ("U.S immigration,")A person or couple who is adopting a child can also apply for the child to obtain permanent residency within the country ("Intercountry adoption,"). Now there is even an act that allows families that have been separated for a long time to file (parents or children) for their family member to gain permanent residency.
