This topic meant a lot to me, my entire family is made of immigrants that at somepoint thought we could make a better life in America and they did. In fifth grade students begin to look at the push and pull factors of immigrants, and why not allow students to look at and make connections between two time periods. It would allow students to see that what might have pulled one immigrant group also pulled another immigrant group to immgrate during two different time periods. Allowing the student to research immigrants and look at their own families even to see push/ pull factors. Just as this topic would allow students to make connections, it also allowed me to make connections that I would have never thought about unless i took the time to read and uncover this information. I would have never thought to compare my grandmothers' or my nieghbors strugles and reasons to come to America would be simmilar to thoughs that decided to come to America 100 years prior.
